Cinema Popcorn Machine Capacity Chart: 16oz to 52oz

Oct 19, 2026 Leave a message

How much popcorn can a cinema popcorn machine actually produce? Kettle size is only the starting point. For cinema operators, the more useful metrics are kernels per batch, production cycles, hourly throughput and finished popcorn volume.

The following capacity chart provides a practical planning reference for 16–60 oz commercial popcorn machines. The calculation assumes a 3-minute production cycle, up to 20 cycles per hour, and approximately 2.5 cups of popped popcorn per ounce of kernels. Because actual performance varies with kernel moisture, oil, recipe, machine design and operating conditions, manufacturer-rated output should always be used for final equipment selection.

The first batch can take approximately 4 minutes from a cold kettle; subsequent batches are typically around 3 minutes.

Tub assumptions: Small = 8 cups, Medium = 12 cups, Large = 20 cups. Actual cinema packaging varies by chain and container design, so these figures are intended for capacity planning rather than packaging specifications.

How to Choose the Right Capacity

For a busy cinema, don't size the machine based only on average hourly attendance. Peak concession demand matters more. A 16 oz machine may be sufficient for moderate traffic, while 32–52 oz systems are better suited to high-volume cinemas, multiplexes, stadiums and other large venues.

The best approach is to calculate peak servings required → required popcorn volume → kettle capacity → single or twin-kettle configuration. This helps prevent both under-capacity during rush periods and unnecessary equipment investment.

Source note for the website: The chart uses a standardized planning calculation; actual rated capacities differ between manufacturers and models. For example, BR POPCORN lists 32 oz, 48 oz and 52 oz machines at up to 640, 960 and 1,000 one-ounce servings/hour respectively.
